It’s day 15! We’re officially half way into the 30 Days of Dedication Challenge. These two weeks have flown by, I guess that’s the one perk of doing this challenge during the holiday season. The time goes by so fast and I’m sure the next two weeks will go by even faster. I want to take some time to reflect on how I feel about this challenge and what my plans are going forward. Read on to find out how and why clean eating will change your life.
Why I Believe Clean Eating is the Best Plan
There is so much conflicting information out there when it comes to diet and nutrition. In the last 5 years alone, I’ve tried – low-carb diets, high-carb diets, the Fab Four smoothie diet, vegetarian, vegan, paleo, and just plain calorie counting. All of these ideas leave us confused about which advice to follow or even worse, the information we uncover can be so convincing that we become dedicated to a lifestyle that the world might decide is actually horrible for us, in five years. What’s “good” and “bad” is constantly changing.
So if there is all this conflicting information, why do I believe clean eating is the best plan? It’s simple really. I support clean eating because it’s a plan where you aren’t cutting out anything naturally derived from the earth. And that feels right to me. I understand that other people support other types of plans, and that they have managed to have healthy bodies and reach their goals through their plans and that’s wonderful. I just know, this is the best plan for me.
When it comes to clean eating, I can honestly say, it is the only plan my body has ever thrived off of. I’ll admit, the first few days can be hard, especially if your diet has been loaded with processed foods, but that always passes. In my journey, I have been slowly transitioning into a cleaner diet for the last year. When I decided to take on this challenge, it was the perfect time for me.
Clean eating allows me to have nutritious and satisfying meals with no limit. I can eat my clean foods in abundance because they are nutrient dense and will only help my metabolism and body. With clean eating, my body is at it’s best. I have so much energy, I sleep better, I’m more focused, less moody, I have better skin, and so many other benefits. If I want to make something sweet, I can have it. If I want a lot of carbs, I can have it. This is a highly sustainable and flexible plan.
What Do You Give Up with Clean Eating?
Clean eating isn’t about giving up your favorite foods. That would not be sustainable, flexible, or enjoyable. You can still have the things you love but sparingly. What you give up is the inclusion of processed foods in your diet on a consistent basis. When it’s time to celebrate, you enjoy the family meals and decadent cakes. Those are special moments in your life and a little indulgence won’t hurt you in the long run. But on a daily basis, you focus on clean, whole foods.
This may seem extreme for some people, and I get it. It can seem nearly impossible to cut out the processed foods you’ve been including in your diet on a daily basis. But at the same time, after less than a week of eating clean, your body responds. You stop craving those processed foods, and if you do, the cravings are much weaker. Your body will adjust and instead start to crave for these healthy foods that it should have been receiving all along. When you turn to fruits, honey, and maple syrup for sweetness, you’ll find that you’ll need a lot less to satisfy you sweet tooth. When you turn to oats, brown rice, and potatoes for your carbs, you’ll see that they will give you energy instead of making you feel tired and sluggish.
Finishing This Challenge and Beyond
I am really excited for the next two weeks and especially the results! I already feel and see so much change in my body. As promised, I have not stepped on the scale, taken any additional pictures, or done any measuring. Additionally, I have not limited my calories at all. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be able to complete this challenge as planned.
This challenge has been a great way to reset my body and an excellent way for me to enter into the New Year. After the challenge, I will continue clean eating but I will start to incorporate the processed foods I love, sparingly. I’m so excited for 2018 and the part that clean eating will play. I’m already thinking about what new challenges and healthy ideas I’ll put into play next year.
There is so much more information about clean eating that I didn’t include here. I learned about clean eating by reading Tosca Reno’s book, The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged!: Lasting Fat Loss That’s Better than Ever If you are interested in learning more about clean eating, I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book. If I haven’t converted you, Tosca Reno surely will.
